Chicopee Police Say Body Of Boy Who Went Missing In Woods Recovered

The body of a 10-year-old boy who went missing while playing in the woods of Massachusetts has been recovered, police said Tuesday.

Chicopee police in a Facebook statement did not say exactly where the boy was found, but authorities had previously said they thought that he and an 11-year-old companion had fallen through the ice on the Chicopee River on Saturday.

The 11-year-old boy, a resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was recovered from the water Saturday and died at a Boston hospital on Sunday.

The boys are believed to be cousins, authorities have said.

"We offer our prayers and condolences to both families and ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts," police posted.

The boys had gone to play in the woods in Chicopee and were reported missing at about 1 p.m. Saturday when they did not return home, police said.

Their names have not been made public.
