Mass. K-12 School Closures Related To Coronavirus

UPDATE: On Sunday, March 15, Gov. Charlie Baker closed all schools in the commonwealth for three weeks, beginning Tuesday, March 17, until at least April 6.

Boston Public Schools will close Tuesday, March 17 and tentatively will remain closed until April 27, Mayor Marty Walsh said in a press conference Friday evening. Students will be allowed into school buildings on Monday together belongings and any personal items they need.

Walsh said they would revisit reopening the schools as the situation surrounding coronavirus evolves. School officials will announce details about the closure, including the status of student breakfast and lunch, on Sunday.

"Whatever crisis this challenge brings, we'll meet them together," Walsh said.

Boston joins scores of other school districts in implementing weeks-long or indefinite closures.

Archdiocese of Boston parish schools and Archdiocesan elementary and high schools  — located in districts throughout the state — will close for two weeks, until Friday, March 27, and school officials will continue to evaluate extending this further.

Gov. Charlie Baker said no school district would be required to extend the school year past June 30.

Here's a running list of what's closed across the state, with most leaving room for reassessing and extending their closures.
