Today's Weather: Kicking Off A Week Of Below Average Temperatures

Weekends in May don't get much better than what we just experienced. Temperatures on Saturday reached or surpassed 70 degrees in a few spots, and as warm as 80 degrees yesterday. When you factor in the sunshine, it really was an ideal May weekend.

This is not going to be as nice of a week, although it won't be terribly bad. The main theme will be below average temperatures. Readings today will be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. We will continue with afternoon highs right around 60 degrees for much of the upcoming week.

In terms of precipitation, there might be a light shower today and again later Wednesday or Thursday. As we look farther ahead, the pattern hasn't resolved itself enough yet for me to say whether or not we will see more showers or dry weather heading into Mother's Day weekend.

One thing I do know about the end of this week is this: it will get even chillier. Average highs are in the low 60s right now, but we may stay in the 40s and lower 50s Sunday. This would be significantly below average and has the potential for a frost or freeze over the weekend. It's still five days away and a difference of just a couple of degrees will make an enormous impact in whether or not we see damage to budding fruit trees and other vegetation. This is definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on.
