Summer Is (Basically) Canceled: Here's A List Of Boston-Area Events Affected By The Coronavirus

On May 8, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced there would be no large gatherings in public spaces in the city this summer through Labor Day due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

We've created a list to help keep track of all the events that have been canceled or moved online.

Art

International Sand Sculpting Festival - The 2020 event, scheduled for July 17 at Revere Beach, has been canceled.

Beacon Hill Art Walk - Originally planned for June 7, the art walk has been postponed to Oct. 4.

Cambridge Arts River Festival - Originally scheduled for June 6, the festival has been canceled.

Music

BSO’s 2020 Tanglewood - Live performance and education programs have been canceled, but the virtual audio and video streams will be hosted in July and August.

Rockport Music - Summer concerts and events have been canceled through August, including the Rockport Jazz Festival and Rockport Celtic Festival.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular - The live concert has been canceled; a broadcast of retrospective and new content will air on July 4 at 8 p.m.

Newport Folk Festival - The 2020 festival has been canceled, according to an announcement released April 29.

Boston Art & Music Soul (BAMS) Fest - According to a post on its website, the 2020 festival has been postponed to June 2021.

Somerville PorchFest - The May 9 festival has moved from the porch to the couch, with performances streamed virtually.

Theater

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company - The company’s production of “The Tempest” on the Boston Common has been postponed to July 2021.

Provincetown Theater - The 2020 season has been rescheduled for 2021.

ArtsEmerson - The Summer Special engagement Step Afrika!’s “Drumfolk,” scheduled to stage July 22 to Aug. 1, has been canceled.

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater - The theater has canceled its 2020 season.

Shakespeare & Company - According to a statement, the summer season has been canceled.

Dance

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival - In a statement shared March 31, organizers announced the cancelation of the summer festival that was scheduled to take place June 24-Aug. 30.

Food

Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl - The all-you-can-eat ice cream festival has been postponed from June to September.

Cultural Events

Marshfield Fair - The 2020 fair has been canceled.

Black Picnic Day - Salem United announced the annual Negro Election Day festival and parade scheduled to take place July 18 has been canceled.

Boston Pride - The 2020 Boston Pride Parade and Festival scheduled for June have been canceled. The 50th-anniversary celebration has been postponed to 2021.

Festival Betances - Scheduled to take place in July, the festival is impacted by Boston Mayor Walsh’s announcement.

North End Italian feasts and processions - All festival activities are canceled.

Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts - The annual cultural festival and parade event scheduled to take place July 24-26 has been canceled.

Markets

SoWa Open Market - The market is postponed through May.

Somerville Flea - “We’ll let you know,” states a graphic on its website.
