Car inspections will not restart until at least next week, the state Registry of Motor Vehicles said.

Inspection stations have been out of service since last week due to a malware attack on the nationwide inspections system, officials said in a statement.

The RMV said there is a grace period in place through the end of the month for vehicles with stickers that expired at the end of March, and for newly purchased vehicles.

“The RMV shares the frustrations and disappointment with the tremendous inconvenience Applus’s outage is causing, and recognizes the significant impacts on customers and business owners across the Commonwealth,” said Acting Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie in a statement. “The RMV remains committed to its efforts to ensure Applus makes Massachusetts a priority in quickly and safely returning the inspection program to operation.”
