WATCH LIVE: Derek Chauvin Sentenced For The Murder Of George Floyd
Derek Chauvin will appear in court Friday as Judge Peter Cahill passes sentence on the former Minneapolis police officer's second-degree murder conviction.
By statute, Chauvin could face up to 12 1/2 years in prison, through prosecutors have argued for 30 years, saying that the circumstances and cruelty of Chauvin's actions are aggravating factors in the crime. Chauvin, while acting as a police officer, knelt on the back of Floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, refusing to move as Floyd, face down, repeatedly said he could not breathe before he died.
You can watch the sentencing hearing here starting at 2:30 p.m.
