The former head of the Boston Police Patrolman's Association has pleaded guilty to 21 counts of child rape and sexual assault.

Former police officer Patrick Rose admitted in court Monday to sexually assaulting six children over a 27-year period.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden called the crimes "monstrous acts."

He says he hopes the plea provides some level of healing and recovery for the victims.

Six victims gave statements during the hearing. One said to Rose, according to a statement from Hayden's office, "Your reputation? Absolutely gone. All you will ever be remembered as is another creep who has nothing going for him. Your job as a cop protecting people? Will that’s really quite ironic isn’t it?"

A judge sentenced Rose to at least 10 years in prison followed by 10 years probation.

A city review of the Rose case found that the police department should have done more to protect the public after initial claims were made against Rose in 1995. An internal review had sustained the allegations made against him, but Rose was allowed back on active duty when the victim in that case recanted. He remained on the force until his retirement in 2018.
