Widow files wrongful death suit against MBTA over husband's staircase death

The widow of a Boston University professor has sued the MBTA and Massachusetts Department of Transportation, alleging the agencies were negligent when they allowed a decrepit staircase to remain standing near the JFK/UMass station.

David Jones fell to his death when the steps gave way in 2021. The wrongful death lawsuit, filed by his wife, Sarah Sacuto, alleges the agencies allowed the staircase to fall into disrepair, making them a danger the public.

Representatives of the MBTA and MassDOT both said the agencies do not comment on pending litigation.
