Boston set to exhaust all federal pandemic relief funds

The city of Boston is on track to spend all of its federal pandemic-relief funds by the 2026 deadline, according to a report by the Boston Municipal Research Bureau.

The report, which published on Tuesday, found that most of the $558.7 million that Boston received through the American Rescue Plan went toward housing and economic stimulus programs. The city will need new funding to sustain those programs after the pandemic money runs out, the report adds.

Most of Boston's ARPA funds had already been appropriated (98.7%), leaving city leaders to decide what to do with the remaining $7 million. The deadline to spend ARPA funds is December 31, 2026.
