Sunshine and showers: Your Memorial Day weekend forecast

It's Memorial Day weekend! The unofficial start of summer is finally here, and this week's weather has definitely been giving Massachusetts a taste of what's to come. A cold front sweeps through on Thursday and brings with it a welcome change — less humid air! That means things will feel much more comfortable Friday across New England.

Overall, the holiday weekend is looking fantastic. Sure, you might need to dodge a few raindrops here and there, but there's definitely no washout in sight. Expect plenty of sunshine Friday with just a few high, thin clouds decorating the sky. Temperatures will be delightful, with highs reaching the 70s and even 80s for most places on Friday.

Thinking about heading to the beach? Saturday's another great day, storm-free and warm, with highs reaching the 70s and 80s again. Just a heads-up for our coastal friends — a sea breeze is expected to kick in by afternoon, keeping things a touch cooler (think low 70s) on the beach.

Sunday's forecast is a little less straightforward. There's a chance of showers, both in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will still be warm, with highs reaching the 70s and even low 80s across the region. Cape Cod might be a bit cooler overall, but with highs around 70, it'll still be a fantastic day to be outside.

Memorial Day itself looks like the least sunny day of the bunch, and the coolest as well. There's a chance of showers, though they might be scattered and hold off until later in the day. Expect highs in the 60s to lower 70s. For Memorial Day parades and events, it's worth having tents or a backup/rain plan for now — and keep an eye on the forecast for more specific timing of showers in the days to come.
