Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced this week that she is pregnant and her family plans to welcome a third child next year.

"Conor, Blaise, Cass, and I can’t wait to welcome another little one to our family and to Boston," Wu said in a statement released from her campaign to supporters Monday evening. "It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I’m due in January and couldn’t be more grateful."

The 39-year-old told the Boston Globe she's expecting a girl and her pregnancy would not influence her decision to run for reelection next year. She said she'd announce the official start of a campaign for another term at a later date.

Wu told the Globe she experienced more morning sickness in her first trimester this time around than with her other pregnancies. Her two children, Blaise and Cass, are ages 9 and 7.

Though she has pushed for the option for city workers, Wu said she does not intend to take maternity leave.

"I’ve been a mom and caregiver as long as I’ve been in public service. It’s that daily juggle—and the struggles and dreams of families across our neighborhoods—that keep me grounded in the work and moving with urgency," she added in her statement.
