Enjoy the late taste of summer in New England before fall reasserts itself

Summer officially ended weeks ago, but temperatures on Monday seem to say otherwise. Highs temperatures will reach either side of 80 for many along with the glorious sunshine, making it feel more like the end of August as opposed to the end of October. But don't get too comfortable, because temperatures will snap back to reality by later this week.

Monday's high temperature has unofficially matched the daily record of 82 degrees set back in 1920. Worcester is also flirting with — but likely to fall shy of — its record of 80 degrees set in the same year.

With the dry conditions and a gusty breeze, there's an elevated fire risk on Monday. Be careful when handling or disposing of ignition sources like grills or cigarette butts.

Tuesday will be another warm day, although local sea breezes will keep coastal temperatures around 70. Inland areas will see highs well into the 70s again.

Expect another warm day Wednesday with a gusty wind out of the south, pushing our temperatures back into the 70s. An approaching cold front will bring an increase in clouds by late Wednesday evening along with a passing shower Wednesday night into early Thursday.

Behind the front, cooler air should return on Thursday. Highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s, with a brisk northeast wind at 10-20 mph. That's actually pretty seasonable for this time of year, but after this warm stretch it will be a noticeable change.

The sun will be shining Friday but highs will struggle to get out of the mid to upper 50s.

Another fast moving cold front will approach for the weekend; right now a brief shower is possible later Saturday with highs around 60 followed by cooler air on Sunday and highs in the low 50s.

The chill doesn't last long though, with another warm up in the cards for the Northeast through the middle part of next week. In fact, temperatures in the 70s will be possible next Wednesday and Thursday (Halloween).
