Omni hotel workers ratify contract, ending strike

Omni Parker House and Omni Boston Seaport hotel workers unanimously ratified a contract Sunday and plan to return to work Monday morning following a five-day strike.

UNITE HERE Local 26 said in a statement that the agreement with Omni Hotels & Resorts "achieves the Union’s core demands, including historic wage increases, the maintenance of workers’ healthcare benefits, and improved hiring and severance language."

More than 600 workers from the two hotels had been on an open-ended strike since Oct. 14. A tentative agreement over the weekend led to the suspension of picket lines and the workers are expected to return to work on Monday at 4 a.m., the union said.

Another 600 hotel workers remain on strike at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport and the Hilton Boston Park Plaza.

"We’ve made millions for the hotel and all we asked for is a small piece of the pie," said James Smith, a banquet server at the Parker House. "For me, the most important aspect of this new contract is that everyone will get meaningful raises. I’m glad that Omni came to the table in good faith and we finally reached an agreement. But we’re not done until we’re all done, in Boston and everywhere else.”
