What’s open and closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Mass.

Most Americans know the third Monday of each January as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday to remember the civil rights icon and Boston University alumni. But another major political event shares the date this year.
Inauguration Day falls on King's remembrance day, a coincidence that has only happened two other times since the nation first observed the holiday in 1986.
And like this year, both previous King Day inaugurals were for a president's second term in office: President Bill Clinton's in 1997 and President Barack Obama's in 2013.
There are plenty of ways to honor King before, during and after the inauguration, including visiting the Embrace Monument near the Boston Common Visitor Center, where he and Coretta Scott King met and fell in love, a trip to the Stone Zoo which is offering free admission in honor of the figure, or the annual Martin Luther King Memorial Breakfast celebration in Seaport with noted speaker and political activist Angela Davis.
