Don't have health insurance in Mass.? Here's the fine you may pay next year

Nearly everyone in Massachusetts has health insurance, as required by law. For the few who don't, there are new penalties for skipping coverage.

The state's Department of Revenue recently issued its latest schedule of penalties. They begin in the 2025 tax year, according to the state.

More than 98% of Massachusetts residents have health insurance, according to the Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis. That makes the fines moot for vast swath's of the state's population.

Who doesn't have insurance? According to the center, uncovered residents "were disproportionately adults aged 19 to 64, males, Hispanic residents, and/or residents with a family income below 300% of the federal poverty level."

If you're uninsured, you can calculate your potential tax penalty using the tool below.
