One person killed in plane crash near Beverly airport
One person died and another was injured after a plane crashed near the Beverly airport Thursday.
Beverly police and fire say the plane crashed onto Sam Fonzo Drive, just outside the airport, around 8:45 a.m. Crews found a single-engine piston aircraft with significant damage resting against a utility pole.
Two men, a pilot and passenger, were trapped inside the plane. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police say no one on the ground was hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and are investigating the crash.
