Here's who won Boston City Council preliminary elections in 2025
The preliminary election helped whittle down the options in several Boston City Council races. Outside of the one open race in District 7, there were few surprises, with incumbents maintaining leads in all races.
At-Large
Eight of the 10 candidates for an at-large city councilor seat will move forward to the November general election, when the number will be cut in half.

The current at-large councilors — Ruthzee Louijeune, Julia M. Mejia, Erin Murphy, Henry Santana — finished in the top four spots, according to the city's unofficial results with 100% of precincts reporting. Four more candidates will continue on to the ballot to challenge them in November: Frank Baker, Alexandra Valdez, Marvin Dee Mathelier and Will Onuoha.
Baker, formerly a councilor for District 3, was the only candidate among the challengers to pick up more than 10% of the vote.
Candidates Yves Mary Jean and Rachel Nicole Miselman finish ninth and 10th in the race, respectively, and will not appear on the November ballot.
District 7
Voters in Boston's District 7 will choose between Said Ahmed and Miniard Culpepper in November's general election. The two will vie for the Boston City Council seat vacated by Tania Fernandes Anderson.
Ahmed faces allegations of harassing voters during the early voting period in this election, the Boston Globe reported.
The two were the winners in Tuesday's preliminary election, finishing first and second, respectively, in the 11-candidate field which included Said Abdirahman Abdikarim, Samuel Hurtado, Tchad Akilah Cort, Natalie Juba-Sutherland, Wawa Bell, Shawn Dwayne Nelson, Roy Owens Sr., Maverick Afonso and Jerome King.

District 7 is the only race without an incumbent in this year's election. Fernandes Anderson resigned several weeks after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges. She was sentenced to a month in prison followed by three years of probation, and fined $13,000 for accepting kickbacks from staffers while in office.
While she was out of the running, Fernandes Anderson still involved herself in the race, endorsing Abdikarim ahead of her sentencing. Abdikarim finished fifth, according to the city's unofficial election results, with 14% of votes.
District 5
And in District 5, Enrique Pepén will defend his seat against Winston Pierre after Sharon Hinton failed to advance to the general election.
District 4
In District 4, incumbent Brian Worrell and Helen Cameron advance to November's election after Juwan Khiry Skeens finished third.
District 2
In District 2, longtime Councilor Ed Flynn will fend off a challenge from Charles Jeffrey Delaney in the general. According to the city's unofficial results, Brian Matthew Foley finished third, but only by a hair. Flynn has a healthy vote count with 86% of the vote to 6% his two opponents picked up. (Delaney got 629 votes compared to Foley's 588 votes.)
District 1
In District 1, incumbent Gabriela Coletta Zapata will face off against Andretti Mcduffie-Stanziani after Ricardo Rodriguez was eliminated from contention Tuesday night.
