What's open and closed for Veterans Day 2025 in Mass.

Veterans Day falls on Tuesday, Nov. 11 this year. The day honors all military veterans, living and deceased, who have served during wartime or peacetime.

The holiday is always observed on the 11th day of the 11th month, marking the end of World War I. It was originally called “Armistice Day,” a nod to the truce that took effect on the 11th hour on Nov. 11, 1918. The initial holiday was dedicated to world peace and World War I veterans.

In 1954, following World War II and the Korean War, Congress renamed the observance to its current name to recognize all American veterans.

Boston will honor the members with its annual parade and salute on Nov. 8, starting at the Boston Public Library and ending in front of City Hall Plaza.
