5 things to do this weekend, including Twilight at MAAM and flamenco at The Dance Complex.

This weekend presents a host of exciting arts happenings that prompt us to think about a world in flux. A collaboration between concert series organizer Non-Event and Boston’s Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture has produced a show that promises to be stirring and eclectic. As we think about our complex political times and contemplate our futures, former vice president Kamala Harris gives a talk at Medford’s Chevalier Theatre about her recently published book. Those events and more below.

Twilight at MAAM: Palaver Strings

Thursday, Nov. 13

MassArt Art Museum will hold a special version of its regular Twilight at MAAM, blending music and dance. Palaver Strings, a Grammy-nominated, musician-led ensemble and nonprofit based in Maine, will perform. Their program “Port City” will take attendees on a journey of the history and evolution of tango music, performing “danceable classics, alongside contemporary, tango-inspired compositions.” Bandoneon soloist and composer Heyni Solera will join the ensemble, along with dancers Luna Beller-Tadiar and Sheila Solis Arroyo. The event is free and takes place from 6-9 p.m.

Yoona Kim, Retribution Body, sadnoise

Saturday, Nov. 15

The Boston-based, experimental concert series Non-Event partners with Boston’s Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture to produce an evening of music at City Hall. During this show, Yoona Kim — a performer and composer whose work bridges worlds and temporal states — will showcase her work. The event also brings in the Providence-based artist Matthew Azevedo, who creates music under the name Retribution Body. They’ll be joined by Femi Shonuga Fleming, who began performing as sadnoise, specializing in electronic improvisation. Tickets are free, and RSVPs are requested.

Kamala Harris: '107 Days'

Saturday, Nov. 15

Brookline Booksmith hosts former Vice President Kamala Harris, who will lead a conversation about “one of the wildest and most consequential presidential campaigns in American history,” which began when her running mate Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection in July 2024. At this event, Harris will share her perspective, what she learned, and what she believes is the path forward, given our current political climate. The talk will be held at Chevalier Theatre in Medford. Tickets start at $83.30 and include a copy of Harris’ book, “107 Days,” which published in September.

'Velada Flamenca 2025'

Saturday, Nov. 15-Sunday, Nov. 16

The Omayra Amaya Flamenco Dance Company presents a two-day celebration of flamenco at The Dance Complex. The event will feature professional performances, a student repertory showcase and a community jam that local musicians are invited to join (pre-registration is required). Performers include Spanish flamenco singer Juan Murube, guitarist and composer Roberto Castellon, and percussionist Rafael Heredia. Amaya will also dance and has choreographed most of the pieces. General admission tickets cost $39.19.

Boston Jewish Film Festival

In-person screenings through Sunday, Nov. 16

Created in 1989, the Boston Jewish Film Festival honors and recognizes the vibrancy of the Jewish experience through film and media. This week is the last chance that spectators will be able to catch international award-winning films in person before the virtual portion of the festival begins (Nov. 17-19). Catch movies like “Fantasy Life,” a feature film about a paralegal who loses his job and begins babysitting his psychiatrist’s granddaughters, on view at the Somerville Theatre on Saturday. Meanwhile, the documentary “Disposable Humanity” recollects how disabled people were targeted by the Third Reich, screening at the MFA on Sunday. Tickets for individual screenings are $18, including fees.
