What's open and closed on Thanksgiving in 2025

Gobble gobble! Thanksgiving is almost here.
The holiday falls on Nov. 27 this year, the second-latest date it can be on. (The earliest? Nov. 22.)
Thanksgiving comes after a hectic pause in federal food assistance and as prices for staple Thanksgiving food tick up. If you need a place to eat or help securing food, you can find resources here.
No matter your plans for the day, here are the key closures to note:
Federal offices: Closed.
Federal courts: Closed.
Post offices: Closed.
State offices: Closed.
RMV: Closed.
State courts: Closed.
Municipal offices: Closed.
Public schools: Closed.
Libraries: Closed.
Trash pickup: Check with your local government or provider. Boston residents can check for pickup delays by searching their address here.
Banks: Most banks will be closed. Check with your preferred location for more information.
Stock market: Closed. Markets will also close early at 1 p.m. the following day.
Retail locations: Closed.
Liquor stores: Closed.
Supermarkets: Closed.
MBTA: The transit agency is adjusting schedules for both the day before the holiday and Thanksgiving itself. Friday, Nov. 28, will see a normal weekday schedule.
Nov. 26: The commuter rail, the RIDE, bus and subway will operate on a normal weekday schedule. But there will be more frequent Silver Line service to and from Logan Airport. All ferries will operate on a normal weekday schedule, except for adjustments on the Hingham/Hull route. Check out those details out here.
Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving): The subway, bus and the RIDE will run on a Sunday schedule. The commuter rail will operate on a weekend schedule. There will be no ferry service, and the Charlie Service Center will be closed.
