What's opened and closed on Memorial Day 2026 in Mass.

Memorial Day falls on May 25 this year, honoring fallen soldiers who served in the U.S. armed forces.

There's a host of events around state to commemorate the day, including parades in Watertown and Brockton. More than 37,000 American flags that will be planted at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Boston Common as part of the annual Memorial Day Flag Garden.

For those interested in an indoor activity, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art are offering free admission on the holiday.

Whatever's on the docket, here’s a reminder on what is open and closed on Memorial Day:

Federal offices: Closed.

Federal courts: Closed.

Post offices: Closed.

State offices: Closed.

RMV: Closed.

State courts: Closed.

Municipal offices: Closed.

Public schools: Closed.

Libraries: Closed.

Trash pickup: Check with your local government or provider. Boston residents can check for pickup delays by searching their address here.

Banks: Most banks will be closed. Check with your preferred location for more information.

Stock market: Closed.

Retail locations: Open.

Liquor stores: Open after 12 p.m.

Supermarkets: Open.

MBTA: The subway and bus will run on a Sunday schedule. The Ride will operate on a Saturday schedule. Commuter rail will run on a weekend schedule.

There will be no service on the Hingham to Boston ferries. The Hingham/Hull/Logan route will run on a Sunday schedule. The East Boston, Charlestown, Lynn, Winthrop and Quincy ferries will operate on a weekend schedule.
