The Kraft Group's financial arrangements around the World Cup have been kept largely under wraps thus far. The company, which owns Gillette Stadium, had also not said publicly if it was helping fund the new MBTA train platform that will deliver fans to the matches — and also to Kraft events year-round.

But on Tuesday, as state officials were in Foxborough to announce the new station was completed on time, just two weeks ahead of the first World Cup game, Robert Kraft said his company was "proud" to " contribute over $5 million dollars" toward the T's $35 million project.

"The goal was to create safe, reliable, accessible rail service for both everyday commuters and the major events that bring people together here at Gillette Stadium," Kraft told reporters Tuesday. "It will serve commuters heading to work, families visiting the area, and fans attending some of the biggest world sporting and entertainment events."

Gov. Maura Healey thanked the many people involved in getting the station upgrade done "on time, under budget, top quality, ready for World Cup," and ready for summer, as well as "a permanent fixture here."

The Krafts have previously said World Cup would not be a "money maker" for them. But the Kraft Group, FIFA and the host committee have all declined to provide details of the deal.

This is a breaking news story; it will be updated.
