Mating Rituals: Hammerhead Bats Honk To Woo

More than half of the body of the male hammerhead bat is its larynx. When it "sings" to attract a female, it flaps its wings in rhythm with the "onks."  This male was caught in a mist net and photographed in the scientist's tent.  Then this bat photo was superimposed onto a photo of its lek — the area where the male bats gather to sing and attracts mates.
