Louisiana officials waited months to warn public of whooping cough outbreak

The Tdap vaccine protects against whooping cough (pertussis), which is particularly dangerous for infants. Because infants can't get their first vaccination against pertussis until they are 2 months old, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that pregnant women get vaccinated in the third trimester, in order to pass immunity to their newborns.
