Resume

After Mark Titus walked on to the Ohio State basketball team as a freshman, he spent most of his time warming the bench. But by his senior season...he was still warming the bench. He took his experience from the end of said bench and started a blog. That blog led to a book titled Don't Put Me In, Coach: My Incredible NCAA Journey from The End of The Bench to The End of The Bench. He joined Bill from WCBE in Columbus, Ohio.

Bill's thoughts on Don't Put Me In, Coach:

Mark Titus sat on the bench for the Ohio State basketball team for four years. At some point he began to understand that he'd never play much, so he started writing a blog about such things as achieving a "trillion," which is sort of what his line in the box score looked like when he played a minute without scoring a point, contributing an assist, getting a rebound, committing a foul, or doing anything else that might have been noticed.

His book is an expanded blog. He has some amusing things to say, but not, perhaps, a book's worth. People who celebrate Division-I basketball coaches for their fire and genius may be disappointed to learn that said coaches sometimes behave like Mark Titus and other sophomoric frat boys.

No book I've read recently concerns itself with the elimination of bodily fluids more than this one, and far too much of Don't Put Me In, Coach is given over to smart-alecky stuff, much of which will fall flat unless you are male, between the ages of 18 and 23, and drunk.

This segment aired on March 24, 2012.
