Melky Cabrera: All-Star MVP Hit With Suspension

Major League Baseball's steroid era is supposed to be over ... at least according to MLB. But some players are still breaking the rules and getting caught.

On Wednesday, the reigning MVP of the All-Star Game, San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera, was suspended for 50 games afterin testing positive for synthetic testosterone. The San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur joined Bill Littlefield on Only A Game this week.

Cabrera was the fourth major league player suspended this season for drug use. When he was informed of the positive test, Cabrera acknowledged he cheated.

"Months ago, there were rumors, and [Cabrera] denied it then," Tafur said. "Once it came out that he'd done it, he had a statement that said, 'Yeah, I did it. I know what I did was wrong. I apologize.' In a sense, he said, 'Let's move on.' It's very forward-thinking for a player."

Cabrera was hitting .346 with 60 RBI, and his bat will be missed in the Giants' lineup, but Tafur said that the clubhouse probably won't hold it against Cabrera very long.

"There's a fine line between doing your best and possibly cheating," Tafur said.
