U.S. Senate Set To Extend Jobless Benefits

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote Tuesday to extend unemployment benefits to millions of out-of-work Americans until the end of November.

Republicans, including Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts, have opposed adding the $34 billion cost to the deficit and have successfully blocked the extension since June. But with the scheduled appointment of Democrat Carte Goodwin to replace the late Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Senate Democrats expect to have enough votes to overcome a Republican filibuster.
