NStar To Merge With Northeast Utilities

Boston-based NSTAR and Northeast Utilities of Hartford disclosed plans Monday for a $17.5 billion merger that would make the new company one of the largest utilities in the country. The combined company, which will be called Northeast Utilities, will have nearly 3.5 million electric and gas customers and will operate six regulated utilities in three states.
