Red Velvet Cake Could Stop Traffic
ResumeFirst there was the cupcake boom, then the pie trend, and now — red velvet cake? It's definitely the one item in a baker's window that can stop traffic. While the New York Times said "it was all the rage" back in 2007, we think 2011 is the perfect time for the racy batter's renaissance.
A group of local bakers and chefs will show off their red velvet prowess Tuesday night at OMG Red Velvet, a benefit at Flour Bakery in Fort Point Channel with proceeds supporting the Brookline nonprofit Lovin' Spoonfuls.
We talk to two local chefs who have their own take on red velvet — and the recipes to prove it.
Guests:
- Joanne Chang, pastry chef/owner, Flour Bakery and Cafe
- Will Gilson, chef, Garden at the Cellar

- Lovin' Spoonfuls: A Food Rescue
