Not too long ago, Radio Boston's Meghna Chakrabarti was poking around on Youtube. She's a very beginning ukulele player and was looking for some online lessons.
Sorting through the videos she stumbled on a video that blew her away. It was "As My Guitar Gently Weeps" on ukulele. And it was awesome.
We got Jake Shimabukuro, the "ukulele god" on Radio Boston.
Turns out, since that Youtube video went up a five years ago, Shimabukuro has proven he can cover just about anything. He's toured with Bela Fleck, performed with Ziggy Marley, given a TED talk and has become one of the world’s biggest stars on a tiny stringed instrument that itself is seeing a resurgence in its popularity.
He's got a new album out, titled "Peace, Love, Ukulele", and will be in Fall River Saturday and Sunday.
