Valentine Documentary Explores MLB Recruiting In Dominican Republic

Baseball is the economic and cultural lifeblood of the Dominican Republic. The tiny, impoverished island nation has produced some of the games greatest professional players — from Juan Marichal and Miguel Tejada, to Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz.

A new documentary tells the story of Domincan baseball players; of their dreams to cash in and of the way Major League Baseball develops, recruits and signs these young players. The film is called "Ballplayer: Pelotero" and was produced by Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.
