Today's ARTery segment - where we talk to local artists, musicians and critics about what's exciting them on the local arts scene - focuses on the New England premier of How We Got On, a coming of age story about three suburban teenagers pursing the dream of rap stardom in the 1980s. That's when anthemic hip hop numbers like "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were migrating from America's cities to the burbs and into the mainstream.

How We Got On was written by Idris Goodwin, and it's being produced by Company One at the Boston Center for the Arts through Saturday, August 17th.

Guest

David Dower, Director of Artistic Programs for ArtsEmerson.
