Suzan-Lori Parks Asks Questions Of Freedom In 'Father Comes Home From The Wars'

Suzan-Lori Parks is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright,  but when she joined us in-studio earlier this week, she brought her guitar. Also with her was musical director Steven Bargonetti, and together, they performed songs from her latest play, "Father Comes Home from the Wars." The play follows a slave during the Civil War named Hero, who is offered his freedom if he'll serve alongside his master in the Confederate Army.

"Father Comes Home from the Wars" will eventually have 9 parts, taking us from 1862 up to the present. Parts 1, 2 and 3 are onstage now at the American Repertory Theatre's Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge.
