In the penalty phase of the trial that will decide if Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev lives or dies, the judged unexpectedly halted the proceedings and instructed jurors to return on Monday.

Defense attorneys are close to winding down their case — and their effort to save Tsarnaev from execution. They are also hoping that Judge George O'Toole will allow testimony from one of the nation's top anti-death penalty advocates.
