Exactly 40 years ago — June 22, 1975 — José Massó was establishing his roots in Boston. He had arrived just two years earlier to work as a bilingual teacher at Copley Square High School.

Back then, his students encouraged him to use his bilingual skills to speak to a wider audience — and that's just what he did.

He came to WBUR and launched "Con Salsa" — part music show, part party, part community center. And, since then, he's been on the air almost every Saturday night at 10 p.m. to play a carefully selected mix of Latin music.

In 2010, José was inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

José Massó will be celebrating 40 years of ¡Con Salsa! at this month’s WBUR On Tap.
