The jazz and R&B singer Lizz Wright has a new album, and it's all about starting over. It's called "Freedom and Surrender."
The album is her first in several years. "Freedom and Surrender" is a statement from a 30-something artist coming to terms with this stage of her life — with a new record label — she was dropped by her old one — a failed a marriage and a near-death experience.
She told us the album is all about that "circuitous dance of love."
- "The luxurious dimensions of Lizz Wright’s voice — a smooth, dark alto possessed of qualities you might associate with barrel-aged bourbon or butter-soft leather."
- "Lizz Wright recalls sitting with producer Larry Klein in a seafood restaurant on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, Ca., in early 2014 and tossing around the possibility of working together. She and Mr. Klein knew they had common ground."
This segment aired on September 11, 2015.
