Young-adult writer M.T. Anderson has made a career of writing satirical science fiction as well as historical fiction on topics such as the American Revolutionary War and the Siege of Leningrad.

But he's going beyond the confines of Earth in his new book, "Landscape With Invisible Hand." It's set in a near-future Earth colonized by an alien race called the "vuvv" that resemble "granite coffee tables."

"Landscape With Invisible Hand" encapsulates '50s doo-wap culture, alien colonization, gastrointestinal illness, artistic vision and finding yourself during economic collapse.
