It hasn't been a pleasant few months for UMass president Marty Meehan.

The purchase of Mount Ida College this spring led to a vote of no confidence against Meehan at UMass Boston that then caused a revolt against hiring a new chancellor for that school.

Many say they're surprised that Meehan didn't recognize that the deal would have been so controversial.
