Cellist And Former NEC President Laurence Lesser Hits A Big Milestone: His 80th Birthday
ResumeCellist Laurence Lesser is celebrating a big milestone next month — his 80th Birthday. Lesser has been with the New England Conservatory for almost 45 years, serving as the president from 1983 to 1996, and has no intention of retiring anytime soon.
"Music has been my life, all of my life," Lesser said. "And, all of a sudden, to stop doing... it would be like I'm done with life."
Lesser is an award-winning cellist. He studied under renowned cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, played under Igor Stravinsky, and has performed all over the world.
Laurence Lesser will be performing a free concert with the NEC Philharmonia and conductor Hugh Wolff on Sept. 26 to celebrate his 80th birthday at the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall.
