This article is more than 4 years old.

In his latest book of essays, Jabari Asim takes on America's complicated past and present when it comes to race and racism. These aren't the kind of essays that end with a simple argument: "this is what we need to overcome racism." They're explorations, weaving past and present, art and news to give a multi-dimensional picture of blackness in America in 2018.

Asim will be at the Boston Book Festival on Saturday and at the Harvard Bookstore on Friday, Oct. 19.

Guest

Jabari Asim, professor of creative writing at Emerson College and author of the new book "We Can't Breathe." He tweets @jabariasim.

This segment aired on October 10, 2018.
