Lizzie Borden went to trial for the 1892 hatchet murders of Andrew and Abby Borden, her father and her stepmother, in Fall River, Massachusetts.

While Lizzie was acquitted of the murders, popular lore still connects her with the crimes. The case is the subject of the first episode of Travel Channel's newest series, "Legend Hunter," where local scientist Pat Spain takes a closer look into whether Lizzie really could have been behind the murders.
