Two Boston School Committee members have stepped down over racially charged text messages they exchanged during a committee meeting in October.

Lorna Rivera, a Latinx professor of women's studies at UMass Boston, submitted her resignation on Friday after private messages between her and the latest chair of the school committee, Alexandra Oliver-Dávila, which denigrated residents of West Roxbury, became public.  Alexandra Oliver-Dávila announced her resignation Tuesday.

This comes after the resignation of Michael Loconto, former chairman of the committee, when he was heard mocking the names of Asian attendees waiting to speak at that same committee meeting in October. So what's going on with the Boston School Committee? We discuss with WBUR Edify reporter Max Larkin.

This segment aired on June 8, 2021.
