This is the Radio Boston rundown for August 3, 2021. Tiziana Dearing is our host.

  • For almost five months, nurses at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester have been on strike, primarily over staffing concerns. Yesterday, negotiations between the hospital and the nurses failed, with the nurses rejecting the latest proposal. We check in with Telegram & Gazette reporter Cyrus Moulton about what happened, and what lies ahead.
  • New details are emerging about Friday afternoon’s Green Line MBTA crash that injured at least 25 people. The rearmost westbound moving train was going 30 miles per hour in a 10 mile per hour zone when it hit a second train from behind near Babcock Street, according to a preliminary investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Joining us to discuss what went wrong and what else the investigation may uncover is Jarred Johnson, the Executive Director of transit advocacy group TransitMatters.
  • As part of our ongoing series with all the major candidates for governor, we talk to Harvard Professor Danielle Allen about why she's running and what's important to her.
  • It's Tuesday, so it's time to Ask The Doctors. We take listener questions about the delta variant, new masking guidelines, vaccine effectiveness, and more with Dr. Sabrina Assoumou, infectious disease specialist at Boston Medical Center, and Dr. Shira Doron, infectious disease physician and hospital epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center.

This program aired on August 3, 2021.
