This is the rundown for Radio Boston for February 15. Tiziana Dearing is our host.

  • It's been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of pandemic news over the last few days. First, the FDA announced it would delay approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children under five as it awaits more data, leaving parents once again asking when the vaccines will become available for distribution. Today, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced it has loosened its mask guidance, now only recommending fully vaccinated people wear masks if they have a weakened immune system, underlying conditions, are of a certain age that makes the virus an increased risk, or if they live with someone who fits into any of those categories or is unvaccinated. What are the takeaways from this week, and how should we be thinking about navigating this pandemic? First, we're joined by Christine Schuster, president and CEO of Emerson Hospital in Concord, to talk about the increasing numbers of children waiting in emergency rooms for pediatric care. Then, we take listener calls and questions with Dr. Shira Doron, attending physician and hospital epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center, and Dr. Lou Ann Bruno-Murtha, chief of infectious diseases at Cambridge Health Alliance, which has locations in Cambridge, Somerville, and Everett.

This program aired on February 15, 2022.
