Why Boston's new NWSL marketing campaign flopped

13:22

Last week, Boston’s new professional women’s soccer league announced the team’s name: BOS  Nation FC. The name was accompanied by a marketing campaign centered on the slogan, “Too Many Balls.”

The backlash was swift. Senior writer from the Athletic Meg Linehan wrote “it might be the worst brand launch I've ever seen in American soccer.” The team removed the "Too Many Balls" video from their website and publicly apologized.

Linehan joins Radio Boston to talk about what the failed campaign says about this cultural moment and how we think about women's sports.

This segment aired on October 22, 2024.
