Ex-Babysitter Charged In Kidnapping Of Hamilton Toddler
Police have arrested the former babysitter of a Hamilton toddler, who was abducted from her home early Friday, on charges of kidnapping.
Abigail Hanna, 21, of Topsfield is charged with kidnapping the 2-year-old, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a child, and breaking and entering in the middle of night, according to a statement from Hamilton police. She is being held without bail.
Authorities say the toddler's parents discovered their child was missing early Friday morning and alerted police. Hours later, the child was found hunched over, naked, sitting in a pile of leaves on the border of Ipswich, the Associated Press reported.
The Hamilton Police Department says the young child was reunited with her family Friday evening. She is still under evaluation at Boston Children's Hospital, police say.
In a statement, Hamilton Police Chief Russell M. Stevens said the kidnapping was not random and there is no “wider threat to the safety of local children and families.”
