Federal jurors in Boston on Thursday heard defendant Gary Lee Sampson describe how he killed three men in a carjacking spree in 2001. Prosecutors played Sampson's more than 10-year-old confession to police to convince the jurors that Sampson deserves execution. He was sentenced to death in 2003, but that sentence was overturned after a judge found that a juror had lied during selection.  WBUR's David Boeri was in federal court to hear the recordings.

This segment aired on November 3, 2016.
