Aziz Ansari Stages A Benefit At The Wilbur

Aziz Ansari may play an underachieving government official on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” but he’s performing a real public service at the Wilbur Theatre Sunday, April 28, at 7 p.m.

Ansari will take the stage for a one-night only comedy show with all proceeds going to The One Fund Boston and the MBTA Police Association Benevolent Fund.

While Ansari is an accomplished actor with roles in movies such as “Funny People” and “I Love You, Man,” he's an even better stand-up comic. His sharp-witted conversational style is punctuated by stories about his teenage cousin Harris or overhearing rapper 50-Cent learn what a grapefruit is.

In addition to being hilarious, Ansari is legendary within the comedy community for his fine taste in clothing and food. You’re not likely to see many other stand-up comics donning a smoking jacket and pocket square before taking the stage. Ansari also included a list of his favorite restaurants across the country in the liner notes of his latest special — he “loves” the grilled pork banh mi at Pho Viet.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Sunday evening, you could do much worse than spending some time with a very classy man for a good cause.
