Policy For A Healthy America: About The Series

The U.S. has the best — and, in some ways, the worst — health care system in the industrialized world. We spend more than any other nation, yet millions of Americans lack access to decent, affordable health care. The controversial Affordable Care Act — also know as Obamacare — aims to change that, and has introduced sweeping changes into virtually every aspect of the system.

This fall, Cognoscenti teams up with the School of Public Policy & Urban Affairs at Northeastern University to bring you a series we’re calling “Policy for a Healthy America.”

In each installment, we’ll focus on one aspect of current health care policy: What will the ACA actually accomplish? Why is tackling the nation’s obesity problem so difficult? How is technology changing health care delivery? Is a single-payer system the answer?

Through the voices of leading researchers and practitioners, we’ll examine these and other questions from the perspectives of medicine, public health, technology, law and ethics.

Below, Northeastern’s Joan Fitzgerald explains the program at the core of the partnership and WBUR’s Iris Adler explains Cognoscenti’s role.
