In announcing the pilot program, part of a larger national push to reduce childhood obesity and promote healthier eating, Secretary of Health and Human Services JudyAnn Bigby wrote on her blog that about 7,500 households in Hampden County will be randomly selected to participate in the state program. For every dollar in federal assistance spent on fruits and vegetables, participating households will get an additional 30 cents in benefits.

Not much, but it's a start.
